Linocut from Bern

A linocut is a relief print: the motif is cut into a linoleum block with a knife. What is cut away stays white on the paper – what remains takes the ink. A cut cannot be undone.

How the RC prints sheets are made

Richard Červenka cuts every block himself and prints every sheet by hand, one at a time, in Bern. That is why no two sheets are exactly alike – small differences between prints are not a flaw, they are the proof that no machine was involved. The paper is Hahnemühle Sumi-E, a natural white Japanese paper of 80 g/m².
